Reconfiguration Proposals
This was the first of two presentations, on 28th. July 2010 by WYG Planning & Design from Leeds, Paul Thornton, a town planner, their architect and Rod Mordey for owners Rockspring. The display supporting the presentation is in the former Adams unit next to Argos until 31st. July[Saturday].
The development is for three units, the largest of which will be sited next to Boots and will be taken up by Next who are delighted to be able to expand by three times, their current floor space on two floors. The result is that through access from Great John Street will only be through Next and Boots during shopping hours. The stairs from Great John Street will disappear, but the rear access to Boots will be retained and the rather blank walls to Great John Street will be enhanced. There will be improved access from Lower Church Street with better lighting and upgraded security.
The walkway between the Argos and Boots will be redesigned as all three new units will be deeper. New light wells will be constructed along this mall.
A planning application will be submitted in mid- August , but in the meantime any comments should go to Paul Thornton at WYG Planning and Design, Arndale Court, Otley Road, Headingley, Leeds LS6 2UJ. The phone number is 0113 219 2217.
There was no indication of which companies would be taking the other two new units and there are no plans for gated security at night.
