This walk of approximately two hours traces the history of Lancaster. Through the existing buildings and geographical features you will be able to consider the role of this beautiful city in regional, national and international historical affairs. If you live here we hope to bolster your view of your City. If visiting we can “place” the city for you and highlight features worthy of further exploration.

Some gentle climbing / descent is involved and the main route includes steps but there are alternatives to avoid most of these. Stout shoes are recommended and umbrellas / suitable wear if wet.

Visitors booking at the Visitor Information Centre in The Storey, Meeting House Lane , LA1 1TH (01524 582394) will get priority so long as they arrive for the start time of the walk. There will still be some places available for those who arrive on the day.

Covell Cross at the corner of Church Street and Castle Hill.
Nearest Car Park is “Parksafe”, entrance on Damside Street (North). Limited free parking on Castle Hill.

There is no charge. The walk is sponsored by the Civic Society; national and international visitors, and local residents are all welcome.
